About Empress LaBlaQue
I’ll write whatever’s in demand. If people require it, I’ll write it!
Politely, I can’t be pushed into a box, I just don’t fit. If I stick to one genre I’ll get bored. Variety is the spice of life so I’ll write anything. My favorite genres are: Romance, Interracial Romance, Paranormal, Western, Time Travel, Vampires, Mysteries, Suspense or anything that interests me at the time. I also like writing from different points of view. One example: And Now I See was written from a sightless point of view. This e-book challenged my sense of touch, smell, and hearing. It was quite an unusual experience.
My creative process is activated by anything I see, hear or feel. My brain is an endless mass of strange ideas. If I’m curious or passionate about something, it stokes my thought process. Anything that tugs at my emotions will become fuel for writing.
When I started writing romance, it was a requirement to write from the POV of the first person. It allowed the reader to actually experience the situation and relate to the story.
Characters should be regular people with the same types of idiosyncrasies and flaws. Of course we love reading about a handsome man or a gorgeous woman, but I like to give my characters real human qualities. Most times they are not always right or perfect. It’s no fun to read about perfect people. I want them to grow through-out the story. By the end of the book I want my characters to emerge stronger and more confident. In turn, the reader will also grow.
I don’t tell stories very well. When I was a child I loved telling stories. I’m actually very shy as people are often judgmental. My problem solving abilities are different from most and some people find that disturbing. So, to avoid the stares, I remain silent. Although my ideas or comments are fantastic, I’ve come to grips with one fact, I think like a writer.
At first writing was therapeutic, then it became sheer pleasure. When I’m angered, I write that person a letter then toss it away. There is no place for anger in my writing. Each day, I practice feeling the inner peace of positive thinking.
I’ve found my writing voice. My voice is as unique as my personality. I try hard not to copy another author’s style or voice. Therefore, I don’t read anyone’s work when I’m composing my own.
After I perfected my writing style, I took all of my earlier writings and published them. If you’re really serious about writing, keep your earlier work and use it as a launching pad. Who knows, they might be worth something, plus you’ll see just how much you’ve grown.
Sometimes, I do share my writing, but only for clarity. If something still seems unclear with fresh eyes then a new POV is helpful. I’ll do a rewrite without hesitation. Holding on to a useless idea, fluff, or a phrase you think is great, can actually drag your writing down. Dump it!
